A Beginner’s Guide to Marketing for Busy Small Businesses
If you’re reading this, chances are you have an amazing business idea, but don’t know exactly where to start when it comes to getting your products or services in front of the right audience.
I want you to know now that you’re not alone. In fact, “Where do I start with marketing?” is probably the top question I get from small business owners. And my answer is always, “It depends.” Helpful, right?
While it does depend on a variety of factors, if we think about marketing from a birds-eye-view, there are a few questions that every small business owner should be asking themselves.
Who are you saving?
Marketing is all about making your business look like the superhero to your audience. Your goal is to provide a product or service that alleviates a pain point or makes their lives easier.
Before you begin posting on social media or building your website, it’s important to have a clear understanding of who your ultimate customer is. You’ll want to take some time to analyze their:
Demographics - What do they look like? How old are they?
Geographics - Where are they located? Small town or urban area?
Psychographics - What inspires them? What do they care most about?
Behaviors - Do they purchase items or services that you’re selling? Why? How often?
By answering these questions, you get a full picture of your target customer and can tailor your marketing message so that you’re speaking directly to them.
How do you reach them?
The benefits of effective marketing is that you have an entire toolbox of platforms that you can use to reach your audience.
